T. Rowe Price takes a 16% stake in Enterprise Mobility Firm Tangoe Inc. T. Rowe adds this investment to its large investment in Lookout earlier this year of $150 million. Both investments confirm the arrival of Mobile as an Enterprise IT concentration. VMware, Citrix, as well as IBM acquired MDM companies in the last 24 months (AirWatch, Xenmobile, and Maas 360 respectively) to claim a spot in the Enterprise Mobile Market – however all 3 of these IT behemoths have tried to roll these MDM products into their massive stacks without an emphasis on Enterprise Mobility – which is growing by 174.5% compared to laptops at 19.3% (IDC Worldwide Forecast Data).
So is Mobility a distinct Enterprise need? Or is it being pushed into a smaller role because the big IT companies cannot cater to it directly due to their big bureaucracies? T. Rowe seems to recognize this revolution for enterprises – maybe the big IT companies should as well.
